Description

Records found in 3000 year-old Egyptian tombs show that ancient physicians used this as a digestive aid. The seeds are used in medicine mainly as an acrid, anodyne, anthelmintic, antibacterial, antioxidant, antispasmodic, aromatic, bitter, calmative, cardiotonic, carminative, cholagogue, diaphoretic, digestive, diurteic, emmenagogue, expectorant, febrifuge, galactagogue, resolvent, stimulant, stomachic and thermogenic. Along with antispasmodics they relieve period pain. They help regulate metabolism. They are also useful in indigestion (especially stress-related), hyperacidity, flatulence, dyspepsia, hiccups, colic and abdominal pain in children and adults. Chewing the seeds removes bad breath. Research has also established that the essential oil has antibacterial properties, which inhibit the growth of harmful intestinal bacteria. Dill inhibits E.coli and can be used as an adjuvant in recurrent urinary tract unfections due to E.coli.

Dill makes a useful addition to cough, cold and flu naturals and is a mild diuretic. It stimulates the flow of breast milk in nursing mothers and when taken regularly by nursing mothers, helps prevent colic in their babies.

Recommended Dosage: 3 to 5 g powder of dried seeds.

Contraindication: Some people are sensitive to this herb and may develop a minor skin rash. If this occurs, discontinue use. Avoid during pregnancy.
