Description

Used as a astringent, carminative in diarrhoea, hypoglycemic and stomachic. The seeds have been found most effective in diabetes mellitus and glycosuria, as they quickly reduce sugar in the urine. Allays the unquenchable thirst of diabetes. Seeds contain a glucoside jamboline which is said to have the power of checking the pathological conversion of starch in cases of increased production of glucose. In a clinical trial the powder of seeds were given in the dose of 12 g daily in 3 divided doses for 3 months to 30 patients of non-insulin dependent diabetics. Initial fasting blood sugar in mg % �SE was 163.00 (�14.83), after 1 month 129.61 (�12.03), after 2 months 9964 (�9.49), after 3 months 130.11 (�18.87). The reduction in blood sugar was found significant after 1 month and 2 months. It was less after 3 months.

Recommended Dosage: 3 to 6 g powder of dried seeds.

Contraindication: The seeds and fruit have no known warnings or contraindications.
