Diseases Name : Migraine

Description

Consists of a severe, throbbing headache, usually located on one side of the head. The pain begins suddenly in and around the eye or temple, spreading to one or both sides of the head.

Persons most commonly affected: Attacks can occur in early childhood, but most patients first develop symptoms between the ages of 10 and 30.
Organ or part of body involved: Blood vessels of brain.
Symptoms and indications: Loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, sensitivity to sound, light and smell, or dislike for food.
Causes and risk factors: There are some trigger foods and situations that a person suffering from chronic migraines can pick up on as migraine causes and therefore try and avoid. Red wine, chocolate, cheese and yeast are all on the recognised hit list as prime migraine causes and sufferers are often advised to cut these slowly out of their diet to see if any one food stuff in particular is acting as a trigger.
Prevention: Avoid triggers like stress, fatigue, cigarette, smoke, bright lights, dairy products, especially cheese, chocolate, eggs, oranges, spinach, bananas, wheat & wheat products, peanuts, citrus fruits, tomatoes, red meat & shell fish and alcohol (especially red wine and spirits). Any tendency to constipation, liver problems or general congestion will be a marked trigger in some individuals. Drugs such as birth control pills, which contain estrogen may be triggers. Regular meals and snacks are an important part of the dietary management of migraine. Suddenly giving up tea and coffee may act as a trigger for migraine in certain people. Reduce your intake of sugar, refined foods, nuts, fatty foods, animal products (meats and dairy), chocolates, alcohol, soda, and salt. Drink more water and eat more fiber, vegetables, whole grains, and vegetable proteins.
